About Me

My name is Kimberly Ikpo, and I live in Fort Worth with my husband and daughter. We like to spend our free time visiting Texas State Parks, hiking, kayaking, going to concerts, and exploring around Texas and beyond.

My Story

Since I first started writing journal entries, poetry, and prose as a child, I knew I wanted to be a writer when I grew up. And thanks to the encouragement from a professor in the very first college class I sat in at East Tennessee State University, I decided to go for it.

My professor, Kathleen Grover, explained that our first assignment was to write a short in-class paper about an adventure we went on that summer. I wrote about a trip to Belize. The next class period, she pulled me aside and told me I should consider writing for the East Tennessean, ETSU's student publication. That little nudge was all I needed. I switched my major to journalism and dove head first, earning multiple journalism scholarships and serving as executive editor of the East Tennessean.

After graduating, I was offered a copyeditor job at a daily newspaper in Nacogdoches, Texas. I sold everything I owned and packed up my apartment in Knoxville, TN, and made my way to the oldest town in Texas. I had the time of my life as a reporter and news editor. Always a storyteller, getting paid to write was a dream come true. What appeared to be a sleepy little town was oozing with interesting characters, and I sunk my teeth into that community. It's where I met my husband, and as they say, the rest is history.

After a few years, we moved to College Station, TX, where I worked at Texas A&M University and spent 7+ years telling the Aggie Engineering story. I thoroughly enjoyed the energy of being around innovative students and faculty, and I learned a lot about developing digital marketing strategies.

In 2022, I took a remote role with an educational technology company, and we moved to Fort Worth, TX. We've been calling Panther City home for a couple years now, and we absolutely love living here.
